Collegeinsider.com released its 2008-09 preseason Mid-Major ranking on Monday and the Mount was #22. The Mount fresh off an NCAA tournament appearance last year is the only team from the NEC among those ranked.
Mount opponent, American is ranked just behind the Mounties.
The poll is selected by college coaches with teams from the following conferences eligble for consideration: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit League, Sun Belt, West Coast.
Among the coaches on the voting panel are NEC coaches Dave Calloway (Monmouth) and Tom Moore (Quinnipiac). Also with voting privileges are Jim Larranga (George Mason) and Jimmy Patsos (Loyola). The Mount faces both of those teams early in the season.
The Mountaineers open play next Friday night at Loyola versus Patsos and his Greyhounds.
Also receiving votes were NEC member Robert Morris, along with Larranga and his Patriots, Boston University (whom the Mount plays in its home opener), Morgan State (whom the Mount scrimmages in a closed door event this weekend) and Mount Alum Cliff Warren's Jacksonville Dolphins.
